     Richard Allen Risden was born on 2 January 1906 at Hawthorne, Passaic County, NJ. He (1) married Sarah Elma Hancon, daughter of Harry Hancon and Margaret May Dunlop, on 13 June 1933. Richard Allen Risden (2) married Lorene Nash in 1980.1 Richard Allen Risden died on 12 February 1998 at Tavares, Lake County, FL. He was buried in West Point.

Richard A. Risden
Retired Army Brig. Gen. Richard A. Risden, 92, of Tavares, died Wednesday. Born in Hawthorne, NJ, he moved to Central Florida in 1968 from Arlington, Va. He retired from the US Army after 38 years of service. He was an Episcopalian and a member of the Masons and the Lake County Retired Officer's Association. He was a 1933 graduate of West Point Military Academy and served during WWII and the Korean Conflict. Survivors include his daughter, Catherine L. Coulter of Taveres; sister, Theresa (sic) Bollinger of Bricktown, NJ; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Hamlin and Hibish Funeral Directors, Eustis.
He was born in a house at the corner of Lafayette and Rea Aves., Hawthorne, Passaic, NJ. Dick was an exceptional baseball player (catcher). As an elementary student he played for high school teams and in high school he was scouted by the Boston Red Sox.
He attended Asbury Park High School, and was a catcher for Neptune HS baseball team. He graduated Neptune Township H.S. on 19 Jun 1926, and started attending U.S. Military Academy, West Point, NY. on July 1. He worked for the Newburgh News, and later (1929) attended the University of Maryland. In 1933 he graduated from West Point.
     He was stationed in Fort Benning, GA in 1940. On Dec 15, 1944 he joined the headquarters in Italy as assistant adjutant general and adjutant general of Corps Headquarters near Echelon, which culminated in the defeat and surrender of the enemy forces in Italy.
On 27 Sep 1945 he traveled to Dublin, Ireland, where he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for meritorious service in combat from 15 Dec 1944 to 2 May 1945 in Italy.
In 1947 he was living with his family in the U.S. Occupation Zone in Germany.
In 1952 Dick commanded the 17th Infantry Regiment in Korea. He was decorated for his combat service with the Legion of Merit with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters, the Silver Star with Oak Leaf Clusters, the Bronze Star, Army Commendation Ribbon with Medal Pendant, Combat Infantry Badge, the Italian Cross of War Merit and the Purple Heart. In 1954 he was assigned to the Joint Chiefs of Staff at the Pentagon.
In October 1956 he was promoted to the rank of brigadier general. His new assignment was with the Military Assistance Advisory Group in Formosa. He served first as Deputy Chief of the Army Section of MAAG, Taiwan, then as chief of the Army section, adviser to the commander in chief of the Chinese Army. To better prepare himself to advise on airborne employment, he completed paratrooper training with the Chinese Army Airborne Regiment and was the first American graduated from the Chinese Army Jump School, for which he was awarded Chinese jumpwings.
In April 1959 he became the new commander of Fort Carson, CO.
