Claes Janse Romeyn was a cooper.6
Jan sailed from Rotterdam to Brazil in 1650. He came to Long Island in 1654. On 9 Mar 1679 he bought a plantation in Gravesend where he lived for several years. In 15 May 1696 Major John Berry conveyed to Claes land that lay between the Hackensack and Saddle Rivers, adjoining land of Albert Albertse Terhune and Urian Luberts.6 He made a will on 31 October 1719. It was proved 16 Nov 1730. He was Claas Romeyn, of the out ward of the City of New York, being in perfect health. Names wife Chrystintie Romeyn; children and grandchildren, namely, John (eldest), Albert, Daniel, and Samuel (youngest, under age) Romeyn, Gertrude, wife of Daniel Akerman; four children of my daughter Leysbet, wife of John Sabrissie, dec'd (for one share) Lydia, wife of Johanes Slingerland, and Saertie, wife of Hendrick Van Giesen. All the rest of my estate, after my wife's decease, is to go to all my children. Sons John, Daniel, and Albert, to be executors. Witnesses: Esther Le Chevalier, Rip Van Dam, Jr., and Stephen Bayard.5
The baptisms of Claas Jans, son of Jan Claasen (NYDC 20 Jul 1652; sponsors: Jan Pieterzen and Tryntie Pieters; father Jan Claesen, mother not listed) cannot be Claes Janse Romeyn, as his father was Jan Pieters; He also would not have been from Amsterdam at his marriage.7,8 Name variation: Claas Romeyn.6

In 15 May 1696 Major John Berry conveyed to Claes land that lay between the Hackensack and Saddle Rivers, adjoining land of Albert Albertse Terhune and Urian Luberts.6 He made a will on 31 October 1719. It was proved 16 Nov 1730. He was Claas Romeyn, of the out ward of the City of New York, being in perfect health. Names wife Chrystintie Romeyn; children and grandchildren, namely, John (eldest), Albert, Daniel, and Samuel (youngest, under age) Romeyn, Gertrude, wife of Daniel Akerman; four children of my daughter Leysbet, wife of John Sabrissie, dec'd (for one share) Lydia, wife of Johanes Slingerland, and Saertie, wife of Hendrick Van Giesen. All the rest of my estate, after my wife's decease, is to go to all my children. Sons John, Daniel, and Albert, to be executors. Witnesses: Esther Le Chevalier, Rip Van Dam, Jr., and Stephen Bayard.5
The baptisms of Claas Jans, son of Jan Claasen (NYDC 20 Jul 1652; sponsors: Jan Pieterzen and Tryntie Pieters; father Jan Claesen, mother not listed) cannot be Claes Janse Romeyn, as his father was Jan Pieters; He also would not have been from Amsterdam at his marriage.7,8 Name variation: Claas Romeyn.6
