     Joris E Vreeland was named as executor in Gerrit Van Wagoner's will dated 17 July 1769.6 Joris E Vreeland made a will in 1793. It was probated in 1795.4 Joris (George) owned and resided in the house owned by the heirs of Captain William Howe, west of Cavan Point. With Reynier Van Giesen he represented Bergen in the 9th Provincial Assembly of NJ in 1754. He was appointed Judge of the Essex Court of Oyer and Terminer 17 Dec 1744, from which it is inferred that he then resided in that county. If so, he probably lived in Acquackanonk, which was the home of his second wife, Annetje Van Wagenen. In 1748 and 1754 he bought several large tracts of land at Preakness, about four miles west of the present city of Paterson, NJ. In a deed dated 5 June 1758, he is described as of Manachquay (now Moonachie, near Lodi) Bergen County, NJ.1 Name variation: George Vreeland.

     Josiah Pierson Vreeland was born on 24 January 1841.1 He was baptized at Totowa, NJ, (DRC.)2 He married Margaretta McMurray Cruikshank, daughter of John Clark Cruikshank, on 9 October 1867.1 Josiah Pierson Vreeland died on 19 July 1895.1 He was buried on 6 August 1895 in Laurel Grove Cemetery in Totowa Borough.3

     Josiah owned the Chicken Barn, which was a tavern and fast food restaurant on the corner of Riverview Dr and Route 46 in Totowa Borough, NJ. The property was bought by 2 Guys from Harrison in the 1950's who had a huge appliance store, the forerunner of today's malls.3,4
