     Thomas Irwin Probert lived with Thomas J Probert and Ella Irwin at 445 S. Maple Ave, Glen Rock, NJ.¹ Thomas Irwin Probert graduated from Paterson High School.¹ He graduated from Columbia University, New York City, with a degree in sociology.¹ He was a freelance photographer working for The News and as a personal photographer to former governor Robert B Meyner. He also taught biology at Hawthorne and Clifton High Schoosl and economics at Penn State University. He also taught at Columbia.¹

     Thomas J Probert was born at Paterson, NJ.¹ He married Ella Irwin.¹ Thomas J Probert died on 15 July 1940.^1,2 He was buried in Cedar Lawn Cemetery in Paterson.²

     Thomas J Probert and Ella lived at 445 S. Maple Ave at Glen Rock, NJ, with their son Thomas.¹

     William B. Prophet appeared possibly on the census of 1920 at 35 Raymond Ave, Rutherford, Bergen County, NJ. With his father Robert M. (55), mother Louise L. (52), sister Julia L. (34) and brother Robert M. (31), all listed as born in New York. Father is the president of a Machine Co., brother is the manager of same. Father and mother are born in New York, their parents are born in Germany.³

     David Provoost was the mayor of New York.^12,4 David Provoost was named as executor in Evert Van de Water's will dated 16 November 1710.^13,14 David Provoost made a will on 2 October 1723. It was proved 27 Jan 1723/4. He mentions his son David, daughter Belia, son-in-law and daughter Abraham and Catherine Van Wyck; granddaughter Helena Sandford, daughter of daughter Helena.¹⁵

     They are probably brothers, as their sons John are described as cousins.¹

     David Provoost was born on 20 November 1642 at Connecticut.⁴ He was baptized 31 Sep 1645 at New York City (DRC) (sponsors: Willem Kieft, gouvneur; Michiel ter Oyken, fiscael; and Agnietje Arents; father David Provoost, mother not listed.)^5,6,2 He married Tryntje Laurens.^1,3 (Banns on 29 July 1668. He was David Provoost, jm from Kanitteret; she Tryntie Laurens, jd from Amsterdam.)^4,2,7

     David and Tryntie are listed in the NYDC member list of 1686 as "David Provoost and his wife Tryntje Laurens" (member #474-5, name #594-5.)^8,9 David Provoost and Tryntje had two more children, who died young:
Willem (bp. 4 Aug 1672, sp. Jacobus Van de Water and Marritie Kips) and Cathryntie (bp. 14 Oct 1676, sp. Jacob Van de Water and Engeltje Jeuriaens).¹⁰

     David Provoost was born at Amsterdam, The Netherlands, (BC-Families Provoost File has a birth date of 10 Aug 1608, but that seems incorrect.)⁴ He was baptized on 11 August 1611 at Amsterdam (DRC (Old Church)) (sponsors: Marijken Bargeus(?) and Marijken Heinrix; father Guilliam Prevoost, mother Janneken Prevoost.)³ He married Margrieta Jellis, daughter of Jellis Jochemsz and Baijke Schuts. (Banns on 11 July 1637 at Amsterdam. He was 25 yr, from Amsterdam, his witness was Jannetie ?wijns, zijn moeder?; she was 20 yr, from Amsterdam, her witness was her sister Barber Jelis. There are other names in the record, but they are hard to read, and it is unclear what they signify.)⁵ David Provoost died in January 1656.⁶

     29 Sep 1636. Margrieta Eliasz Tanwaert makes a will in Amsterdam. She is still unmarried, and she lives with her sister Agnieta Tanwaert, widow of Elias Provoost. She seems to leave everything to her good friend David Provoost; she leaves money to Johannes Provoost, her sister's child; and to Jochem Jellis Tamwaert, her brother; she mentions her sisters Agnieta Gielis, Barber Gielis, and Cornelia Gielis Tanwaert.⁷
     23 Oct 1636. Maria Provoost, assisted with her brother David Provoost, signs an affidavit.⁸
     David Provoost was the son of Johannes Provoost and Elizabeth, his wife the daughter of Gillis (Janszen) Ten Waert (Verbrugge) and Barbara Shut, there are no data about hem in the Amsterdam database.
At the same time, there is another David Provoost, the son of Guilleam Provoost and Jannetie, his wife the daughter of Jelis Jochemsz and Baijke Schuts. They have no children bp. in Amsterdam; but David's parents are married in Amsterdam, and they have several more children baptized there; Margriet's parents marriage does not seem to be in Amsterdam, but several more children are bapt. there
     Wikitree has Gilliam first married to Elizabeth, with a son Johannes, and then to Jenne Eliasz Herdewijn, with the mentioned children. The banns in Amsterdam do not mention a previous wife; Gilliam's witnesses are his brothers-in-law; usually a widower would not need witnesses. There is no bp. for Johannes, and Wikitree sandwiches him between Gilliam, Jr., and Elias (who are both children of Jenne/Jannetje). But read the comments as well.^4,6,5,9,10
