It is possible but very unlikely that Petronella is a daughter of Pieter Jans DeWit. Two presumptive children of Pieter were sponsors at the baptism of Eva ten Eyck, one of Petronella's children. However, she names none of her children Pieter or Divertje. It is unclear where the name of her mother comes from.3 Name variation: Petronella DeWit.3 Married name: Ten Eyck.

Pieter and family arrived in New Amsterdam in 1652.1
Pieter Jansz Witt in presence of witnesses, Hendrick Willems Backer and Jan Jans Van Breeste, declares that he intends to remarry. Has four children. His wife was Dorethe Volckers.4
Later he removed to Bushwick where he was the largest landowner and a prominant leader of the community.1
Pieter is treated in LI-Families; but that has Volkert's wife as possibly Elisabeth; does have Marytje as wife of Jacob Caljer, Catherina as wife of Hendrick Lott, and Dorothy (Divertje) as wife of Pieter Corteljou; does not have son Pieter.5
While Peter Jans De Wit's father was no doubt a Jan de Wit, it is unlikely he was a brother of Claas and Emmerentia, the children of Jan DeWitt.6
Possibly Pieter's second wife, and Divertje's mother, was a daughter of Hendrick Van Dyke and Divertje Cornelis, whose joint will Pieter witnessed in 1655. However, it also possible, in view of the name of the first child, Boudwyn, that she was a daughter of Boudwyn Manout, the schoolmaster at that time. However, this is all speculation.7 Name variation: Peter Janszen DeWitt.8
