NOTE: Jacob was linked to Jacob Duryea and Sara Nortstrant, they however don't marry until 1747. Bergen Families (Durie/Duryea File) has no parents for this Jacob; Brouwer Genealogy has him as child of Charles Duryea (son of Joost and Maria LeFevre) and his second wife Harmtje Wortman, this seems reasonable, as his oldest son is Charles, and he has a daughter Harmpje. The Bible Record of Jacob and Cornelia Schenk does not list a marriage for Jacob.3,2,4

From Bergen's (NYG&B) Duryea genealogy:
#19. Johannes, son of Jacob and Catrina Polhemus, married Sarah Barkeloo, daughter of Hermannus on 29 Oct 1763
#47. John, son of Joost Jacobse (#17, brother of Johannes) and Willempje Terhune, but with John Duryea's birth date) married Sara Barkeloo, daughter of Harmen on 5 Nov 1763
Bergen Families (Duryea File) the first as a possible marriage (no date), and does not have the second. Bergen Families (Barcalo File) has Sara (b. 1741, daughter of Hermannus and Sara Terhune) married 5 Nov 1763 to Johannes Duryea (no parents).
There is a third John Duryea, son of Joost (Carelse) Duryea and Antje Terhune, b. 1739. See also the discussion on the Dutch Colony List about the confusion of the grandfathers Joost Duryea
It seems to me that the first marriage is not possible; Johannes (#19) cannot have been born in 1739, unless Catrina Polhemus was at most 15 at marriage.5,6

Joost Duryea1

Joost Duryea married Magdalena LeFebre on 28 February 1672 at Mannheim, Palatine, Germany, (Reformed Church.)2,3 Joost Duryea (2) married Kniertje Hendricks, daughter of Hendrick Williamszen.4,5 Joost Duryea died before 9 June 1727.1

Family 3 | Kniertje Hendricks b. 24 Oct 1649 |
Joost Duryea and Magdalena had two daughters, b. in Mannheim, who prob. died young: Magdalena (b. 25 Nov, bp. 1 Dec 1672, sp. Simon Du Rieux and Antoinette Vilain widow of Antoine Le Fevre) and Elizabeth (b. 28 Sep, bp. 30 Sep 1674, sp. Abraham Le Fevre and Elizabeth Du Rieux.3
He came to New Netherland c. 1675 from Manheim in the Palatines; settled at first in N. Utrecht (from 1675). He sold his farm in Bushwick on 5 Oct 1681, for 3200 gl. and a new wagon to Gerrit Cornelisen (Van Duyn) as per page 148 of Liber AA of Flatbush town records.
He left New Utrecht and settled on the disputed lands between Newtown and Bushwick, as per Riker's Newtownand afterwards at Brooklyn. His name appears there on the assessment rolls of 1683 and 1693. He was on the census of Brooklyn in 1690 as Joost Duré, Senior (French), as 1 man, 1 woman, 6 children, 2 slaves
He was a member of the French (Huguenot) Church.6,1,7 Joost Duryea made a will on 13 December 1718. It was proved 9 Jun 1727. He mentions his (2nd) wife Kernitie (Kniertje/Cornelia), and children: Joost Derieu (eldest), Jacque Deriou, Abraham Derieu, Charles Derieu, Simon Derieu, Antonete Lequier and Magdalene Okie. Wife executor; Witnesses, Ann Bobin, Isaac Bobin, James Bobin.4,8,9,5 His parents were Simon Du Rieux and Adrienne Rau or Roul.3
NOTE: There seems to be quite a bit of confusion about Joost. Stouttenburgh and Bergen have two marriages for Joost, with children Joost, Peter, Charles and Cornelius being from the first marriage. BC-Families Duryea File has a son Joost, who married in 1781, but no marriage for Joost and Magdalena. The date that marriage (1672) is well etsablished; so a son cannot have married in 1781.10,8,9
According to Joost (Joosten)'s will, his father is Jacques Diryee and his wife is Dorothy. But Joost (Joosten) Duryea seems to be designated as a son of Joost Duryea by Bergen (NYG&B) and by BC-Families Duryea File. The last one has no marriage dates for either Joost.
Bergen (NYG&B) has the marr. date of 1681 for Joost (Joosten) Duryea (but that would be too early for a son of Joost Duryea), and no date for Joost Duryea. Stoutenburgh (vol.1 p.221) was a reference, but that seems to be in error; Other volumes have many references to Duryea, including Kniertje's will (on p.483-4), but has no references to marriage dates. Most are too late, and reference marriages into other families.
The answer may lay in Mannheim Church Records (FHC Film), but that film is only available at FHC.)1,9,4,11 Name variation: Joost Durye.1 Name variation: Joost Durie.1

Joost Duryea made a will on 16 March 1774 at Jamaica, Queens County, NY. It was proved 15 April 1775. He was Jost Duryee, of Jamaica, in Queens County, miller. Names wife Charity; granddaughter Antie Van Wicklin; sons: Rulof (eldest), John, Jacob, and Aaron, and my daughter Anne. Executors: brothers Abraham Duryee and Jacob Duryee, and my brother-in-law Albert Turhuyn (Terhune). Witnesses: William Howard, Benjamin Coe, and Robert Hinchman, Innkeeper.4 On Sep. 11, 1775 his estate was advertised for sale by Jacob Duryea and Albert Terhune, his executors.1
NOTE: There seems to be quite a mix-up between these two Joosts. See the discussion at. Originally Joost (x Antje Terhune) was designated as son of Joost Joosten and Lena, and Joost (x Willempie Terhune) as son of Jacob Joosten and Catrina Polhemus. I have adjusted the relationships acc. to that discussion. I have copied the wills mentioned to the appropriate Joost.5
NOTE: There seems to be quite a mix-up between these two Joosts. See the discussion at

Joost (Joosten) Duryea was a farmer at Bushwick, NY.1 He made a will. It was unrecorded, and proved 17 Jul 1727. He was Joost Dirye (Duryee), of Bostwyck, in Kings County. Names wife Doritie; six children: Doritie, Joost, Lena, Hendrick, Annattie, and Volkert. Executors: his father Jacques Diryee, his brother Abraham Diryee, his son-in-law, Jacobus Monfoort. Witnesses, Leffert Lefferts, Abraham Lequire, and Abraham Lott.4
The answer may lay in Mannheim Church Records (FHC Film), but that film is only available at FHC.)1,5,3,2
