He was a private in Captain Newkirk's Company, 2nd Batt. and he was wounded in action in Fort Lee on May 18, 1781.7 Samuel A Banta made a will on 21 November 1821. It was probated 1 Apr 1826. He mentioned his wife Elizabeth; sons: Abraham S. Banta and Thomas S. Banta; eldest daughter Mary, wife of Nicholas Demarest; children of dec'd daughter Hannah, late wife of Daniel Blauvelt, viz. Mary Blauvelt, Jane, wife of Adam Folley, and Abraham and Daniel Blauvelt; daughter Maughtye, wife of Gilliam Demarest; daughter Laneah, wife of Peter Winter; daughter Elizabeth, wife of David Conklin.1,8
The Terhune (Gen) Fan chart and the Demarest Genealogy has Samuel married to Elizabeth Blauvelt, daughter of Johannes Blauvelt and Rachel Demarest. This would make her a sister of Margaret Blauvelt. This is in error! DAR proofs:
     (1) Bergen County Deed, dated 26 Nov 1793 (Book K-1) proves Elisabeth Eckerson married to Samuel Banta.
     (2) At her granddaughter's baptism (28 Jun 1790, DRC Schraalenburgh, pg. 299) she is identified as Elizabeth Ekker, wife of Samuel Banta.
     (3) Blauvelts are never sponsors at baptisms of their children, only Bantas and Eckersons.9,10,11,12,13,14 Name variation: Samuel Abramsz Banta.2,15
