He was also an avid genealogist and had a group of family Bibles dating from 1724-1912.¹ He and Eva Whiting lived after 1941 on a farm near Lake Mahopac, Putnam County, NY.¹

Garrett DeWitt was born circa 1735.² He married Margarete Van Hoorn, daughter of Abraham Van Hoorn and Catherine Rutgers, on 11 August 1756 (Trinity Church.)^2,3 Garrett DeWitt died on 23 February 1793.² He was buried in Milford Cemetery in Milford.^2,4
