Barent DeWitt and Sara had five children baptized between 1697 and 1708 at the Sleepy Hollow Church.² Barent settled in Tarrytown, NY then moved to Hunterdon County, NJ in 1709-1710.^1,2 Barent DeWitt was recorded as outgoing Deacon 11 Oct 1711, and as elder of its consistory 28 Mar 1723. He was described as a 'Circuit Rider.' at DRC, Six Mile Run, NJ.²
NOTE: Barent is often connected to Jacob Barent DeWitt and Tryntje Dutcher, however the Pieter Jans DeWit manuscript has Barent as an american-born grandson of Pieter Jans de Wit, and son of Pieter DeWitt and Sara Alberts. As he does not name a single child, either Jacob or Tryntje, this does make a lot of sense. It is likely that Jacob Barents and Tryntje also had a son Barent, but it is not the Barend who married Sarah van Tassel.^3,4
