He is mentioned in the Yearbook of Hackensack on p.85 (just a copy, no bibliographic data): John Engel was a barber, the Postmaster of Hackensack, merchant, and the proprietor of the National Hotel in 1900.^9,7,10 The 1900 census lists John Engel and Mathilda H at Warren Street at Hackensack (Ward 2), Bergen County, NJ, with their children Gussie, Herbert B, Frank P, Emma J and Daniel C.¹¹ John Engel and Mathilda had three more children: John A., Nettie, and Edmund.¹²

NY, farmer; Catherine is 29, b. NJ.³ The 1870 census lists John S Townsend and Catherine at Hackensack Township, NJ, with John S (29, b. NJ, ice business) and Susie (22, b.NJ) Townsend; Jane Clark (51, b. NJ, without occupation), and Tobias Grace (22, b. NY, painter). The father is 52, b. NY, ice business; Catherine is 51, b. NJ.⁴ Married name: Townsend.

     Henry D. Engle married Mary Jane Engle.¹ Henry D. Engle died on 22 June 1887 at Ridgefield Township, NJ.¹

     Rebecca Ennes was from Amsterdam acc. to her marriage certificate.^2,3 She married Francis Goderus, son of Joost Goderus and Jacomyntje Wallings, on 25 April 1683 at New York City (DRC.)^2,3 (Banns on 7 April 1683. He was Franz Goderus, jm from N. Yorke; she Rebecca Ennes, jd from Amsterdam.)³ Rebecca Ennes died before August 1732.⁴

     Rebecca Ennes and Francis had two more children, who prob. died young:
Jacomyntie (bp. 3 May 1685, Kingston; namesake b. in 1695) and Sara (bp. 22 Nov 1691, sp. Laurens Thomaszen and Saertie Ennes; not mentioned in mother's will).^5,4 Rebecca Ennes made a will on 12 March 1731. It was proved 1 Aug 1732. She mentions her son Joost Goderus; and her daughters: Rachael, wife of Adolph De Groof; Mary, widow of William Cainham; Catharine, wife of John Hoogland, Jr; Rebecca, wife of Peter De Groot; and Jacomyntie, wife of Josias Milliken. Executors: John Harris, of New York, baker, and Egbert Van Borsum, vintner.⁴ Married name: Rebecca Goderus.⁴

     Sijds Ennes was born on 5 November 1682.¹ He married Geertje Tsbrands in 1704.¹

     Benjamin Ennes died in 1780 from an Indian attack.¹
