  • Is there possibly a relationship between Pieter van Haarst and Elizabeth van Berchum? The relation is not specified in the will of Elizabeth van Berchum, but a Gerrit Jan van Haerst is mentioned as nephew, so Pieter is prob. also a nephew.
     Pieter van Haarst was from in Almelo at his marriage.1 He married Catharina Geertruij de Man, daughter of Ds Johannes Hendrikus de Man and Johanna Bolk, on 24 Sep 1741 in Vriezenveen1 (banns (NH) 3 Sep 1741, Almelo.)1 He died bet Dec 1747 - 21 Feb 1748 in Almelo.2,3

Gerrit Jan van Haerst and Pieter van Haarst are prob brothers: Gerrit Jan is a guardian for Pieter's wife, and both are mentioned in the will of Elizabeth van Berchum, Gerrit Jan lives with Pieter's widow in the 1748 census.4,5
He was a council member for the Town between 1735 and 1747.6 He was mentioned in the will of Elizabeth van Berchum on 16 Aug 1757.5
Willem Boom, Pieter van Haarst, Jan Berentsen Bolck, Benjamin ten Bruggenkate, Berent Oink, Coenraat Colmschot and Abraham Hagedoorn was among the people nominated on 18 Dec 1733 by the council of Stad Almelo to serve as tax collectors for the 1000th penning. They had to be approved by the Count of Rechteren, Lord of Almelo.7

Grietjen Claessen, widow of Steven Raemaker, with her guardian chirurgijn Hendricus Arentze conveyed to Pieter van Haarst, and his wife Catharina Geertruij de Man and heirs, her half house and yard, with the smitty and the land behind it, between the house of the widow van Haerst and that of Lambert ten Bruggencate. The seller and her late husband lived in this house.8
