Almelo is a small town in the eastern part of the Dutch province of Overijssel. The present municipality consists both of the town itself, and of the surrounding country, the former Ambt or Heerlijkheid Almelo, which was the realm of the Count of Almelo.

The houses at right were dwellings for old servants of the Count of Rechteren.
At present they are artist dwellings.
This project grew out of my ten Bruggencate project. With so much of the family in Almelo, the relations between the inhabitants started to interest me, and I started to transcribe some sources. In the meantime most of the sources have become digitally available in other places (see the bibliography).
This project would never have come so far without the help of countless people, who sent in comments and corrections. Can't name them all, but one deserves special mention: Gerard de Voer, who for years has made comments, that made me think, as well as many corrections, both for Almelo, as well as for ten Bruggencate. Many Thanks!
The website contains only people born before 1850, but in a number of cases I do have more information. For ten Bruggencate, see also the ten Bruggencate database, for Gast the ancestors of my grandchildren.
