Harmen ten Bruggencate was born c 1721 in Heerlijkheid Almelo.1,6 He married (NH) Fenneken Stromeijer, daughter of Thomas Stromeijer and Geesje Spijker, on 9 May 1745 in Almelo1 (banns (NH) 4 Apr 1745, Almelo.)1 He died bet 1795 - 1802, because he is in the census, but died before Lambert's marriage.7,8

He and Fenneken Stromeijer were bleachers. A bleaching field, bleaching shed and all tools belonging thereto, were a part of the security for a loan.9,10
Lambert ten Bruggencate, of Almelo, merchant and skipper, of the Dutch Reformed faith, has on 29 Jun 1730 for himself and his son Harmen ten Bruggencate, age 9 years, obtained the "klein Burgerschap" (limited citizenship), and has sworn the citizen's oath.6
Harmen ten Bruggencate and Fenneken Stromeijer with her guardian Doedo Jan Lamberts made a will on 1 Jul 1790. They wish a proper funeral. They name each other as sole heir. After the death of the survivor the estate will go to their children, namely Janna ten Bruggencate, Thomas ten Bruggencate, Willemina ten Bruggencate, Lambert ten Bruggenkate, Lamberdina ten Bruggenkate, and Hendrik ten Bruggencate, or if they predecease them to their resp. children. The daughter Willemina ten Bruggencate, wife of Jan Berends, only has the use of her portion, after her death this shall go to her 2 sisters Lamberdina ten Bruggenkate and Berendina ten Bruggecate (sic!). They leave their son Lambert ten Bruggenkate a house in the Vildersgang, next to the house of Gerrit ten Bruggencate Abz and on the other side to that of the widow of Jurjen Vixseboxen, presently occupied by Jan Palte, but if he dies without issue, this house will return to the estate. They leave their son Thomas ten Bruggencate the bleachery, the house in which they are living, the bleachin shed, a piece of land in the Peggen-Hagen and the bleacher's tools, on the condition that he pays ƒ3000.- into the estate. And if his brother Lambert ten Bruggenkate and his sister Janna ten Bruggencate stay unmarried, he has to provide them with room and board for the rest of their life. After the death of the survivor, the other children will in advance get an amount equal to what Willemina ten Bruggencate has received at her marriage.2
Harmen ten Bruggencate made a will on 27 Jun 1797. He leaves his son Lambert ten Bruggenkate an extra ƒ1000.- , outside of the will he and his wife had made on 1 June 1790.11

Harmen ten Bruggencate, Lambertszoon and his wife Fenneken Stromeijer took out a mortgage with Engbert Bouwmeester and his wife Catharine Ube, residing in Sneek, with as collateral their land, named the Peggen Leugen, with the bleachfield, the bleachhouse, and all the tools.12
Landgericht, Almelo, 18 Jan 1790:
Harmen ten Bruggencate, assisted by Secr. D. J. Lamberts, came before the Court, and claimed money that François Simons in Amsterdam had inherited from the estate of his father-in-law Gerrit Dake, for linen, delivered, but not paid for yet. The case is cont. on 15 Feb 1790.13
Landgericht, Almelo, 16 Apr 1794:
Lambert Schoenmaker and Cornelis ten Bruggencate, masters of the skippers guild here, accused skipper Gerrit ter Stege from Enter, that he had transported rubbish from Hasselt to Almelo for Harmen ten Bruggenkate Lzn, for a lower rate than the guild had set on 15 Jan of this year. This case is continued on 15 May 1794.14
