William received a good English education and grew up in Shelby County. In 1861 he entered the Buckner Guards as a private. After one uear's service he was brevetted second lieutenant in the 8th Kentucky Cavalry, CSA. In 1862 he was promoted to captain under John Morgan. He was captured with his commander in Morgan's famous raid through Ohio. He remained a prisoner at Johnson's Island until the end of the Civil War.1 Lisa's father lived in Oxford, MS.1 William A Shuck was a farmer; he owned a 100 acre farm at Fulton County, KY.1 Name variation: Billy Shuck.1 Name variation: Capt. Marion Shunk was 17 when she married Benjamine. On the license it stated her as 17 and Benjamine as 21. My guess is that Marion's family approved of the marriage and Ben's family did not. Both were minors because Ben was really 17 and not 21. He lied about his age because his parents would not sign the release for him to get married. Also Ben lived in NJ and he claimed a NY address. Or it could be that the person writing the contract assumed he was 21.3 Married name: Taylor.
