NJ), and a child Jacob W. van Iderstine (1, b. NJ). Richard is 66, b. NJ, farmer; Jane 63, b. NJ.² Married name: Westervelt.

     The 1850 census lists John Van Pelt and Jane at Bergen, Hudson County, NJ.³ The 1870 census lists John Van Pelt and Jane at Lisbon, Kendall County, IL, Annie (20, b. NJ), Katie (15, b. NJ), Cornelius (10, b. IL), and Grace (9mo, b. IL) Van Pelt; and Morgan Pence (21, b. IL, B, laborer). John is 43, b. NJ, uts up lightning rods; Jane is 45, b. NJ.⁵ The 1880 census lists John Van Pelt and Jane at Chicago, Cook County, IL, with their daughter Grace (10, b. IL) and son Cornelius (20, b. IL, laborer). John is 50, b. NJ, a collecting agent; Jane is 53, b. NJ.⁶ Married name: Jane Van Pelt.³

     Jannetje Vreeland was born on 14 September 1693.^1,3,4,5 She was baptized in October 1693 at Bergen, NJ, (DRC) (sponsors: Jan Ariaense Sip and Claesje Dircx Braeck, wife of Johannes Muchielse Vreelant; father Hartman Michielsen Vreelant, mother Marritie Dircx Braeck.)⁵ She married Gerrit Thomasse Van Ripen, son of Thomas Jurianse Van Ripen and Jannetje Straatmaker, on 19 June 1718.^1,6,2,7 Jannetje Vreeland died on 13 October 1784, but she is not named in her husband's will.^1,8

     NOTE: Two files by Mary DeWitt have Jannetje's birth date as 22 July 1691, which is very close to the baptismal date of brother Enoch; Vreeland Annals have the date 14 Sep 1693, which seems to make more sense. It is however possible that they were baptized more than a year after birth, in which case the 1691 date could be true.^9,10,11 Married name: Van Ripen.

     Jannetje Michielsen Vreeland was born at Rensselaerwyck, NY.^1,2 She married Dirk Teunissen Van Vechten, son of Teunis Dircks Van Vechten.^1,3 Jannetje Michielsen Vreeland died on 11 September 1714 (Source: Van Vechten Bible Records).

     Jannetje Michielsen Vreeland and Dirk Teunissen Van Vechten made a will. He reposed the greatest confidence in the judgement and ability of his wife and names his children, with their ages. His wife was nominated administratrix and executrix without bond. Guardians for his minor children were appointed 'Mr. Marte Gerristse van Bergen, Gerrit Teunise, Elias and Enoch Michielsz either all four together or two in particular. 'Elias Michielsz and Enoch Michielsz are, of course, his brothers-in-law and not of the Collier family as mentioned in the foot note. The will was probated before Dirk Wessels, a Judge of the Inferior Court of Common Pleas for the City and County of Albany, March 31, 1703. His wife, Jannetie Michiels became executrix.
His children, as named in his will were: Jannetie, aged 27 years; Weyntie, aged 25 years; Michiel, aged 23 years; Neeltie, 22 years;Johannes, 20 years; Theunis, 18 years; Annetie, 16 years; Fytie, 15years; Samuel, 14 years; Sara, 12 years; Abraham, 8 years.¹ It is interesting to remember that the parents of both Jannetje Michielsen Vreeland and her husband, Dirk Teunissen van Vechten came to New Netherland in the same vessel, Het Wapen van Noorwegen.
     Jannetje Vreeland was evidently the eldest child of the family and was born in Rensselaerswyck. She married Dirk Teunissen Van Vechten, who resided 'in the county of Albany in Katskill, on a farm to him belonging.' The statement made in Winfields's History and copied by others, that they settled on the Raritan, is in error. April 4, 1687, being then in Albany, he made his will and gave his residence as above.The will (Early Records of the City and County of Albany, vol.4, page 139), executed at the house of his son in law, Gabriel Thomas, gives a great deal of information.¹      And in further proof that this family did not reside on the Raritan, we find a receipt dated September 13, 1703 from Kiliaen van Rensselaer to 'Jannetie Teunise ye widw & Relect of Dirk Teunise van Vechten, late of Catskill in ye County of Albany' which acknowledges payment of a mortgage on the Catskill land bought from Stephanus van Cortlant, director of Rensselaerswyck.
