     He died intestate. His wife Catherine Ackerson petitioned for letters of administration on 28 Mar 1863. They had two minor children: John G. Ackerson and Elizabeth Ackerson.²

James is 39, farmer; Maria also 39.² The 1870 census lists James Ackerson and Mariah at Convis, Calhoun County, MI, with Sarah M (23), Margaret (18), Charlotte I (9), and William S (6). James is 49, farmer; Maria 50. All are b. NJ. They are next door to Charles W Ackerson (28, b. NJ), Mollie (26, b. NY.)³ The 1880 census lists James Ackerson and Mariah at Convis, MI, with Maggie S (27), Ida C (19), and Willie S (16). James is 59, farmer; Maria also 59. All are b. NJ. They are next door to Charles Ackerson (37, b. NJ), his wife Malvinia J (37, b. NJ), and their daughter Grace S (8, b. MI.)⁴
     James could be the son of John and Charity Ackerson. They are in the 1855 NJ census in Sussex County as John D Ackerson (77) and Charity (72). In the same image (#389-345) are Peter Ackerson (40) with Anna (34), Lydia (13), Charity (12), John (10), Sarah (7), and Emma (6); (#430) Peter Ackerson (43); (#431-437) an unknown person ; (#447) Emeline Ackerson (20); and (#470) Elizabeth Ackerson (67)
     A daughter Ellen probably married a Terwilliger; that family is listed next to John and Charity, and Charity is living with them in 1860.

     John Ackerson was born in 1803 at New York.² He died on 2 May 1881 (intestate.)¹

     The petition mentions his son Edward M. Ackerson, living in NYC; sons John W., Charles H. William C., and George J. Ackerson, all living in San Francisco, CA; a daughter Roxanna Reeves, residing in NYC; and a granddaughter Mary Wheeler, daughter of his deceased daughter Elizabeth Wheeler, also residing in NYC.¹

     Peter P Ackerson was baptized on 28 November 1802 at Paramus, Bergen County, NJ, (DRC.)² He married Jannetje Doremus, daughter of Andries J Doremus and Abigail Hopper.^1,2 Peter P Ackerson died in 1884 at Mahwah, NJ.¹
