Romke Nieuwland was born on 29 July 1883 in Wonseradeel, Friesland, The Netherlands.1,2,3 She married (1) Opke W. Bonnema on 19 September 1906 in Court of Common Pleas, Bergen County, New Jersey.4,3,5 Romke Nieuwland married (2) Gerrit Brink.1

Her parents were Jan Nieuwland and Hitje van Zon.2 Romke Nieuwland immigrated on the SS Cedric. She left Liverpool on 20 Apr 1906, and arrived in Ellis Island, New York on 29 April 1906. Shee was going to a friend Jacob Bonnema, who was living in at 127 Midland Street in Garfield. Her town of residence is listed as Witmarsum. Romke is a servant. A Johannes Menage is listed above her, also going to Jacob Bonnema.6,3 Romkje Bonnema must have travelled to Holland, as she arrived on 22 September 1908 on the SS Rijndam at Ellis Island from Rotterdam, where she had left on 12 Sep 1908. She was going home to Garfield.7 Wietse (Will) Bonnema and Irene Bonnema must have travelled to Holland, as they arrived on 17 January 1912 on the SS Olympic at Ellis Island from Southhampton, where they had left on 10 Jan 1912. Their last residence was Paterso, and they were going to Paterson, 127 Midland Ave in Garfield.5 She and Opke W. Bonnema were naturalized before 1915.3
