Jacob S Kent was born in April 1835 at Rockland County, NY.^3,4,2 He married Rachel in 1858 (married 42 yrs in 1900, but they are not together in the 1860 census.)^5,3 Jacob S Kent died before 1917.¹

The 1870 census lists Jacob S Kent and Rachel at Paterson, NJ, with son David E (1, b. NJ) and a large number of men who worked as carpenters for the railroad.⁶ Jacob S Kent was a carpenter (in 1870 for the railroad), in 1900 he is in painting supplies.^6,5,3 The 1880 census lists Jacob S Kent and Rachel at Paterson, NJ, on the corner of Canal and W. 13th St. with two children: David (11, b. NJ) and Minnie (2, b. NJ.)^1,5 The 1900 census lists Jacob S Kent and Rachel at 76 Main Street at Paterson, NJ.³ Jacob S Kent and Rachel had five children, but only two living.³
In 1885 there are two families David Kent and Rachel, one without children (ward 8), and one with David and Minnie (ward 5.)^7,8

The Kent Family Wills File had three Mary's married to Gardner: a daughter of David Kent (but Mary is never with him in the census, and so is unlikely to be his daughter. She is not listed in the BC Families Kent File, Gardiner File, or G File); Mary Brevoort (a daughter of Mathilda Kent (daughter of David Kent) who married Casparus Brevoort, but this is not listed in the BC Families Brevoort File or Kent File. As a daughter of Mathilda, she would also be too young to be married in 1880); and a daughter of Jacob (son of David Kent). Jacob had a daughter Minnie, but she was only 2 yo in 1880, so too young to be married. Somewhere a mistake has been made.^2,3,4,1 Married name: Gardner.

The 1880 census lists Stephen A Kent at Brooklyn, Kings County, NY, with his three children Willie, Newton and unnamed. His wife seems to be enumerated with her parents Thomas (64) and Marilla (61) and siblings Henry (41), Eugene (37), William (34), Julian (25), Julius C (23), and Arthur (20) in the house next door as Emma J (29) (all are listed with surname Rockwell.)⁷ The 1900 census lists Stephen A Kent and Imogene at Brooklyn, NY, with their three children Willie, Newton and Harold. Willie (Jan 1883), Newton (?), and Harry (Jul 1880). The ages of the children seem rather messed up: Willie is listed as Jan 1883 (17); Newton as Aug 1843 (57), same as his father; Harry as Jul 1880 (20). A boarder Mary C. Goring (Aug 1866, 34, b. NY, scarfmaker) is listed with them.⁴
