     Henry Jacobs was born circa 1690.¹ He married Maria Catharina (?)¹ Henry Jacobs died circa 17 April 1773.¹ He was buried in Jacobs Burial Ground.¹

     Henry Jacobs made a will on 4 March 1774. Henry Jacob in sickbed.
     If my wife Maria Sabilla will stay she shall have all her care as before, with full power to sell all moveables for her living. If this insufficient, she has the power to sell the plantation where I now live. After her death, what is left to my children in peace with each other shall divide, mine the one half and her's the one half.
     That which my son Philip was yearly to give out of the old place shall be discharged after my decease. The horse Bob my son Philip shall have.
     To son Henry my wearing apparel.
     Shall be my wife's decision to go to her children. If she does go away, she shall have full authority of horse saddle and bridel, two cows, (etc.) If she takes money or bonds, then neither she nor her children shall neither seek or demand from my children either money, goods, or land, and my children shall not demand anything of her and her children.

     Henry Jacobs was a witness to the will of Clement Studebaker, 15 Jan 1762. Probated 12 September 1774 with witnesses Deardorf and Arnold affirming before Samuel Johnston, Deputy Register. (Translation by John Morris a Quaker, who affirmed to its truth on 12 September 1774)
     One of a significant number of wills not rcorded in the county's will books- 1. because of the time period Revolutionary War, and 2. Written originally in German, and since the English translation was not the original, it was not recorded. Should be in appropriate folders of the Register of Wills in the York County Courthouse.¹

     Heyletje Jacobs was born circa 1635 at Gothenborg. She married Jan Broerse Decker, son of Broer Decker, before 1657.¹ Heyletje Jacobs died in 1678.

     NOTE: Heyletje Jacobs Westercamp was listed as daughter of Hendrick Westercamp, This does not seem locical, as her patronymic is Jacobs, not Hendricks.² Name variation: Heyletje Jacobs Westercamp. Married name: Decker.

     Jacob Jacobse was from New Albany when he married.² He was baptized on 16 October 1650 at New York City (DRC) (no witnesses named; father Jacob Walings, mother not named.)^3,4,5 He (1) married Aeltje Daniels on 15 December 1675 at Bergen, NJ, (DRC.)^6,7,2 (Banns on 14 November 1675. He was Jacob Jacobse Van Winckel, ym from New Albany; she Aaltje Daniels, yd from New Yorkt.)² Jacob Jacobse (2) married Grietje Helling, daughter of Hendrick Thomaszen Helling and Grietje Samuels, on 26 March 1695 at Bergen (DRC.)^6,8,9 (Banns on 10 March 1695. He was Jacob Jacobsen Van Winkel, wid. of Aaltje Daniels; she Grietje Hendrickx Hellingh, jd, both living at Bergen.)⁸ Jacob Jacobse died on 20 November 1724.^6,10 He was buried on 22 November 1724 in DRC Cemetery in Bergen, Jacob Jacobsen Van Winkel (1727? or 1717; much blurred.)¹⁰

     Jacob Jacobse made a will on 30 September 1708. It was proved 16 Oct 1732. He was Jacob Jacobsen VanWinckel, Sr., of Bergen Co., yeoman; Names second wife Margaretha; if she dies, eldest son Henry (by Margaretha) to be executor; four (?) children (begotten of my said wife, Margaretha), viz., Henry, Catherine and Samuel; children of my first wife Aeltie VanWinckel, viz., Jacob (5 sh. for his birthright), Margaretha, Daniel, John and Simon. Witnesses: Henry Epken Banta, Abraham Ackerman, John Conrad Codweiss, Matthys Demoot, and Elaes Gerbran.¹¹
     Both Jacob (Van Riper File) and his brother Waling (Unknown source) have a death date of 20 Nov 1724. As Waling makes his will in 1727, that death date has to be wrong.^6,12
     The name Van Winkle is derived from winkle, a corner, square, shop. Winkelier was a shopkeeper. The ancestor was a shop or storekeeper. Its present orthography is comparatively modern. The family settled in Harsimus (Paramus) shortly after their arrival in this country. They came from Middleburgh, the capital of Zealand, one of the United Provinces. The city was on the island Walcheren, about forty miles S.W. of Rotterdam well built and populous, with a fine harbor and a profitable trade. (NOTE: This seems in contradiction with the origin of his father, who is said to be from near Hoorn in North Holland.)⁶
     I have not ascertained the names of the parents of the three boys and two girls who seem to have made up this family. Their names were Jacob, Waling, Symon, Annetje and Grietje: their patronymic being Jacobse - children of Jacob. Jacob was the founder of the family in what is now the county of Hudson. Waling and Symon were of the company from Bergen who, in 1679, purchased and afterward settled 'Haquequenunck,' Aquackanonck, now Passaic. They were the founders of the family at that place. The name was formerly written Van Winkle (source ?)⁶ Name variation: Jacob Jacobse Walich Van Winkle.¹³

     Jacomyn Jacobs was from Uytrecht when she married.¹ A Jacomyn Jacobs was baptized on 26 September 1641 at Utrecht (DRC) (Possibly this is our Jacomyn, as her mother is Susanna, and she names her first daughter Susanna.)² She married Abraham Moll, son of Lambert Huybertsen Moll and Tryntje Pieters, on 16 December 1662 at New York City (DRC) (He was Abraham Lambertszen Moll; she Jacomyn Jacobs, jd from Uytrecht.)^3,1

     Abraham and Jacomyntie were listed in the NYDC member list of 1686 as "Abraham Moll and his wife Jacomyntie van Dartelbeeck" (member #488-9, name #614-5.)^4,5
     Susanna Verhouwel, wife of Jacob Jochimsz van Dartelbeek is buried on 6 Feb 1654; and an unnamed child of Jacob Jochimsz Van Dartelbeek is buried on 27 Feb 1654. Susanna leaves minor children. Jacob Jochums van Dartelbeek remarried in 1655 in Utrecht with Maria Magdelena Storm.^6,7,8 Name variation: Jacomyn Jacobs Dartelbeek.³ Married name: Moll.

     James Jacobszen was baptized on 14 April 1686 at New York City (DRC) (sponsors: Jan Vincent and Maria Martens; father Hendrick Jacobszen, mother Annetje Simons.)^1,2

     Janetje Jacobs was born at Rensselaerwyck, NY. She was baptized on 11 May 1664 at Kingston, NY, (DRC.)¹ She (1) married Antoni Swartwout, son of Roelof Swartwout and Eva Aelberts, on 30 April 1692. Janetje Jacobs (2) married Harmanas Barentsen Van Inwegen, son of Barent Van Nimwegen, on 19 January 1701 at Kingston, NY.² Janetje Jacobs died at Machackemeck, NY.

     Margery's father Anthony was from Hingham, England.¹ NOTE: Hubbard has the date of marriage as before 1665, and Mary's death as after 1663.¹ Name variation: Captain John Jacobs.¹

     Lievijn Jacobs was baptized on 28 April 1613 at Amsterdam (DRC (Old Church)) (sponsors: Lievijn Demmer; father Jacob Arentsz, veerman op R., mother Aeltje Dierix.)¹

     Louise Jacobs was born in 1884 at Terneuzen, Zeeuws Vlaanderen, Zeeland, The Netherlands.^2,3 She married Hippolijtus van Laere on 17 September 1908 at Terneuzen, Zeeland.^1,2 Louise Van Laere died in 1961.^1,3 She was buried in Maryrest Cemetery in Mahwah, Plot #9 B 176.³

     Louise Van Laere and Hippolijtus van Laere immigrated on 16 May 1910 on the Lapland, from Antwerp (7 May 1910), arriving 16 May 1910 in New York. Their son Maurice Van Laere is with them. They list his brother T. van Laere as contact in Sas van Gent. They are going to a friend Jan (or Joe) Schiele (or Schenk?), in Lodi, NJ.^1,4 The 1920 census lists Paul Van Laere and Louise at 131 Spring Street at Lodi Borough, Bergen County, NJ, with a son Maurice (10, b. Holland.)⁵ Her parents were Cornelis Jacobs and Felicita Amelia Verstraete.² Name variation: Louisa Amelia Jacobs.² Married name: Van Laere.³

     Magdalena Jacobs was born at Amsterdam, The Netherlands.¹ She (1) married Jacob Couwenhoven, son of Wolfert Gerretse Couvenhoven and Neeltje Jacobs, on 26 September 1655 at New York City (DRC) (He was Jacob Wolfertszen from Couwenhoven; she Magdaleentje Jacobs from Amsterdam.)^1,2,3,4 Magdalena Jacobs (2) married Hendrick Van Dyke on 20 June 1675 at Midwout, NY.^5,2 (Banns on 30 May 1675 at New York City.      Mary Jacobs was born on 30 March 1656 at Hingham, MA.¹ She (1) married Elisha Bisbey, son of Elisha Bisbey and Joanna (?), on 25 March 1685 (by Gov.      Philip Jacobs was born in March 1737/38 at York County, PA.¹ He married Susanna Mummert, daughter of Deitrick Mummert and Ann (?).¹ Philip Jacobs died on 13 April 1792.¹ He was buried in Altland Meeting House Cemetery.¹

     A Philip Jacobs is listed in Pennsylvania German Pioneers (see notes for RIN 689) as having arrived in Phila and sworn the oath 9 Sept 1938.¹

     Pieter Jacobs was baptized on 8 October 1606 at Amsterdam (DRC (Old Church)) (sponsors: Jannetje Evers and ?; father Jacob Arentsz, veerman op Rotterdam, mother Aeltje Dieriks.)¹
