On the death certificate of her eldest son Francis, her surname is spelled Bough. In Francis' Bible his wife Elizabeth entered the name as Mary Bowe, and as she was probably told this by family it is more like correct.
Mary's second child Raymond, born 11 July 1892, lived only a month. Her daughter Rose was born the following year 9 June 1893 (Rose's niece Mary Jane Lavelle, daughter of Rose's half brother George, once said Rose's mother was Irene Bannon. This is unlikely, as in 1894 daughter Florence was born to Mary E., according to Florence's death record.) Florence (b. 27 August 1894), lived only 4 1/2 months, and her death certificate lists her place of birth as Tannersville, NY, and that she lived at the family home at 170 Boston St. in the Bronx for 3 months prior to her death. Burial through a Westchester funeral home was in Calvary in 1894. It is said that people at that time went to Tannersville to be cured of consumption. Was Mary consumptive? Did she have family there? or was the family vacationing there in August 1894?
Four years after the death of Florence, Mary died in 1898 at the age of 38. Her burial 2 March 1989 is recorded in the John J. Mullen plot, Section 10 Plot 113, of Calvary Cemetery, along with her husband, young children and his second wife. As of 2001, no record of her death certificate has been found, despite searches of the New York City Archives. The cause of her death and names of her parents remain unknown.1 Married name: Lavelle.
