Abigail Cisco (1831- )

Abigail (Abby) Cisco (Cisko) was born 23 Dec 1831 in New Jersey. She is the 3rd paternal great-grandmother of my son-in-law. She was married twice: first to David Hubbs, with whom she had two children; and then to Samuel Riker, with whom she had six.

I first realized she was married twice, when I found her two sons Charles and John Hubbs enumerated in the 1860 census with her and Samuel Riker. It was a real blended family: three children from his first marriage, two from hers, and two from them together. In 1865 there are two more children.

But the 1870 census finds them separated: Abigail seems to be living in Newark; the family name is mangled to Ricord, and the names of the children are listed as Samuel, Cole, Bella, and Jane (instead of James!), and Samuel is listed in Little Falls with his brother Isaac and his family.

In 1880 I cannot find a trace of Abby or her children, except son Samuel, who is living in the household of his father-in-law James Watson; although I know from other sources that Cora, Bella and James all married.

I wonder what happened to Abby, whether her first husband died, or they were also divorced. According to the death index at the New Jersey State Archives, she died in Newark on 23 Sep 1882, so where was she in 1880.

Much remains to be done.

Correction three hours later:  I just realized that I jumped to conclusions too quickly; the Abigail Sisco who died in 1882, was 86 y.o., so at least a generation older than our Abigail! So the puzzle remains, where was she?
