His parents were Jan Joekes Sterkenburg and Hiltje Johannes Schotanus.2 Joeke Sterkenburg and Camerke Sterkenburg immigrated on the Rotterdam, arriving on 26 Dec 1892 in New York, with two children: Pieter (3) and Hiltje (1). They came from Berlikum (Friesland), and were going to Paterson, NJ. He was a farmer.3
1910 Fed. census: Household of Joeke Sterkenburg, 89 Summer Street (4th Ward), Paterson City, Passaic County, New Jersey. Household consists of Joeke and four children: Pieter (21), Hilda (19), both born in Holland, and Margaret (16) and Minnie (12), both born in NJ.1
