Romke Nieuwland immigrated on 29 April 1906 to SS Cedric, Ellis Island, New York, NY, on the SS Cedric. She left Liverpool on 20 Apr 1906, and arrived in Ellis Island, New York on 29 April 1906. Shee was going to a friend Jacob Bonnema, who was living in at 127 Midland Street in Garfield. Her town of residence is listed as Witmarsum. Romke is a servant. A Johannes Menage is listed above her, also going to Jacob Bonnema.6,3 Romke must have travelled to Holland, as she arrived on 22 September 1908 on the SS Rijndam at Ellis Island from Rotterdam, where she had left on 12 Sep 1908. She was going home to Garfield.7 The 1910 census lists Opke W. Bonnema and Romke at (#135) Saddle River Ave (1st Ward) at Garfield, Bergen County, NJ.4 She and Opke W. Bonnema were naturalized before 1915.3 The 1915 census lists Opke W. Bonnema and Romke at Midland Ave #127 at Garfield Borough, Bergen County, NJ, with Garrett J. Brink and George Odolphi.3 The 1930 census lists Gerrit Brink and Romkje at Crescent Ave #24 at Wyckoff, Bergen County, NJ, with a cousin Garrit L. Brink, 25 yrs old, single. Gerrit Brink was 26 at age of 1st marriage, Romkje Brink was 29 (which makes no sense.)8 Her parents were Jan Nieuwland and Hitje van Zon.2
Census of 1920 has a Gerrit Brink (29 yrs old) with wife Lottie (31 yrs old) both emigrated in 1913, both aliens. He is a farmer. As Romkje was naturalized before 1915, this is prob. not her.
