Martha Tiffany (1743-1829)

Martha Tiffany was born 19 Apr 1743 in Attleboro, Bristol County, MA, third child of John Tiffany and Deliverance Parmiter. She is my son-in-law’s fifth great-grand-aunt.

John’s father James had come from Norfolk County, MA to Bristol County; his will was probated in 1732, and lists his 16 children. Martha married Thomas Wilmarth V in 1770, and they had three children.

John stayed in Attleboro, but after the Revolutionary War the next generation is on the move again; they are part of the westward migration to Pennsylvania and New York. All brothers served in the War, most in the Mass. Minutemen under Capt. Caleb Richardson.(1),(2)

Martha, her sister Esther, and brothers Noah, Hosea and Thomas went to Susquehanna County, PA, brother John to Wayne County, PA, and the youngest brothers Zechariah and Hezekiah resp. in Erie and Ontario County NY. Especially in Pennsylvania, they all left many descendants.

(2) It is unclear whether this Capt. Caleb Richardson is the husband of Esther Tiffany; there were quite a few Caleb Richardson in Massachusetts.
