Anna Christina Linsen (1769-)

Anna Christina Linsen (dutch link) was baptized 21 Apr 1769 in Amsterdam, third and last child of Antonij Coenraad Linsen and his second wife Anna Scholten. Her father had had two children with his first wife. Anna Christina is the fourth great-grand-aunt of my husband.

Anna Christina married Teunis Hendrik Menke in 1800. He was the son of Jan Hendrik Menke, and he was born in Spenge, about 15 km north of Bielefeld, Germany.

Anna Christina’s eldest half-sister Catharina Elisabeth (my husband’s fourth great-grandmother) also married a Menke: Jan Lodewijk Menke. He was the son of Hendrik Menke and Catharina Elizabeth Zimmerman, and was born in Amsterdam, but his father is said to come from Buer, probably the one near Melle, which is located about 20 km north of Spenge. Teunis Hendrik died in 1820 in Amsterdam, his nephew Jan Antonie Menke registers the death, he is the son of Anna Christina’s half-sister, so this says nothing about Menke relationships. Anna Christina was present at the wedding of their eldest daughter in 1827 and died before the wedding of their second daughter in 1847.

It is tempting to think that these Menkes were related, but they were never sponsors for each other’s children. If they are related, the answer will have to be found in Germany, but so far all I am reaching are dead ends. Maybe someday more German records will be digitized and available online.
