William F. Seidler (1860-1936)

William Frederick Seidler died on 22 Feb 1936 in Newark at the age of 76. He was my son-in-law’s great-granduncle. He was prominent in Newark, and his page in my genealogy describes him sufficiently.

This family is one of the few for whom I have a lot of addresses, that are still easily found today.

William F. left his house at 29 Rossmore Place in Belleville to his 2 remaining siblings. As the property was bounded by Rossmore Place, Clearman Place and High Street, it must have been much larger than indicated on the map now. Whether the house is the same, I do not know, it is certainly possible.

The pharmacy was at 21 Ferry Street, Newark, and William F. lived at the same address in the 1900 census, and next door in the 1910 census. While the neighborhood now seems to be an industrial area, you can see a picture of the drugstore here

The 1895 city directory of Newark lists two brothers and the mother living at 82 and 84 Pacific Street in Newark. These houses look like the typical multi-family houses of that era.

The families move out to the suburbs, and they all end up in the Maplewood-South Orange area, where their children go to school, and where, years later, my daughter will be teaching.
