Mary Garretson (1690- )

Mary Garretson was born on 18 Dec 1690, 327 years ago. it is unclear, where she was born (poss. in New Castle, DE where her older siblings were born), her father is supposed to be Jan Garritsen Vanderhof, which sounds Dutch. Known is that she married John Cox (the presumed 7th great-grand-uncle of my son-in-law, it is still not proven that John and Thomas Cox (7th great-grandfather of my son-in-law) were brothers) c. 1713 in New Castle County, DE, and they had 8 children: John, William, Benjamin, Ann, Samuel, Sarah, Amy, and Thomas.

John and Mary were Quakers. As in all close-knit groups, they all intermarry, and first names repeat endlessly among descendants, making it hard to distinguish same-named cousins. It takes a lot of research to untangle those relationships. I can’t claim to have done so; but I can provide some links to research, that might shed light on these relationships, as well as some general introduction to Quaker Research.
