Jannetje Schilt (1797- )

Jannetje Schilt was born on 27 Dec 1797 in Amsterdam, 220 yrs ago. She is my 1st cousin 4x removed, daughter of Janna Gast (dutch link) and Johan Bartholomeus Schilt. When they married, Johan came from Weesp, and Janna from Almelo, her mother had given written consent.

Jannetje was baptized 4 days later on Dec 31. Her mother’s sister Jannetje (Jenneke) Gast and her mother’s cousin Jannes Letteboer were the sponsors. (Jannes married, had children, and was living in Amsterdam, no other record so far of Jannetje/Jenneke)

They were all part of a continuous stream of people moving to Amsterdam (and other big cities) for better opportunities, and a better living. Whether it worked in this case is not clear, after the burial of their third, stillborn, child in 1801, I have not been able to find anymore records on this family. A Jannsje Gast is buried in on 14 Jun 1810 in the Noorder Cemetery, but it is impossible to determine who this is.  Either they moved away, or this part of the family ended in Amsterdam
