John Parmenter was among the first settlers in Sudbury. He took the freeman's oath in 1643. He bought a house in 1642, and sold it again in 1649. In 1654 he, or his father, was one of Major Willard's troop in Dedham. In 1665 he was allowed to keep a house of entertainment (Parmenter Tavern. Until the beginning of the 19th century there was a hotel on the same spot.)1,3 He made a wil, which was proved in 1666. The inventory was worth £320.15.1
