John TenBruggenkate wrote a letter (from London, dated 26 Oct 1933) to Jan ten Bruggencate.
He thanks Jan ten Bruggencate for his hospitality, and continues a discussion about genealogy. He gives more details about occupations, but gives few names, mostly relations. His father is the manager of the Foreign Division of the Guardian Assurance Company, his father's brother is a bank manager. Their cousin John Philip is a radiologist, and their cousin George Herbert was a minister in the Anglican church, he died in 1912. John's brother is an accountant in Paris, he is married, but his wife is in ill health, and they will most likely not have any children. John had to see a doctor 3 times/week.10

The following story appeared in the Wisconsin State Journal on 8 Jan 1942 (and in other papers as well). Whether it is true or not will probably never be known. [:CR:][LIND:][:TAB:]A minister in southern England had an odd little adventure while trying to do his part (in the war effort). He was the leader of a Boy Scout troop, and said to his boys one day: "I want you all to be on the watch for parachute troops, who might come into our midst under disguise. I shall disguise myself and I hope one of you boys will discover me". [:TAB:]So the Rev. J. Bruggenkate went to a hut at the top of a distant hill and put on a disguise. When he came out, he looked like a chimney sweep, or at least he hoped he did. [:TAB:]Returning to town, he walked along one of the streets. Suddenly he felt a tap on his arm, and when he turned, he saw a policeman. [:TAB:]"You're no chimneysweep!" said the policeman. [:TAB:]"Oh no, officer, I'm a parson." [:TAB:]"A parson! Well, we'll see about that at the police station." [:TAB:]Shortly afterwards, the sergeant at the police station exclaimed: "Why, Mr. Bruggenkate! What are you doing in the dress of a chimney sweep?" [:TAB:]The minister and his Boy Scouts later laughed over the way their test came out.12[:LIND]
