Coddington warns that there is NO direct evidence that Thomas and William are brothers. The William Stebbins who is buried in 1561 is poss. another brother. There are too many gaps in all the relevant church records. There is also no direct evidence that the William Stebbins, who has children baptised in Black Notley, is the same as the one who shows up in the records in the neighboring parish of Braintree. So these relations have to be treated with extreme caution1 There probably is a relationship between Thomas Stebbins and William Stebbins, the grandfather of Mary Day, who married Thomas Stebbins as his second wife; but it has not been proven, that they were brothers, as Greenlee is indicating (See Coddington in TAG.)1,2
