Josiah was baptized on 10 Oct 1641 at Windsor, Connecticut.2,1 He (1) married Hephzibah Lyman on 6 Nov 1662 at Northampton, Massachusetts.1,3 He (2) married Experience.4 He died on 7 Sep 1732 in Lebanon, Connecticut,5, and was buried in the Old Cemetery at Lebanon.4

Josiah Dewey and Hephzibah Lyman had four children, all born in Northampton: Hephzibah (b. 9 Oct 1663, Northampton, MA), Mary (d. 11 Jan 1664/65, Northampton, MA), Mary (b. 26 Oct 1665, Northampton, MA), Josias (b. 9 Feb 1667/68, Northampton, MA).4
Josiah Dewey and Experience had seven children, all born in Westfield: Nathaniel & Ebenezer, twins (b. 20 Feb 1671/72, Ebenezer d. Jun 1675), Joseph (b. 11 Aug 1674), Elizabeth (b. 10 Jul 1677), Joseph & Experience, twins (b. 9 Apr 1682. Joseph d. Jun 1682), and Benjamin (b. 8 Jul 1685, d. 13 Jul 1685).6,4
He was in 1692 elected deacon of the church. He received a grant of land for help with building the minister's house. In 1700 Josiah and his wife went to Lebanon, near Norwich, Connecticut.7
On 29 Mar 1681 Josiah sued Griffith Jones for slander and defamation of his daughter Hepzibah. The court, in view of the heinous nature of the crime of defamation, fines Jones 42s. Joseph Sexton is apprehended for notorious and vitious speeches to the defamation of Hepzibah Dewey. He is given 15 lashes.8
