Jacomijntje Melis was born in 1786 in Tholen, Goeree-Overflakkee, Zuid Holland, The Netherlands.1 She married Abraham Verduin on 19 September 1834 in Ouddorp, Goeree-Overflakkee, Zuid Holland, The Netherlands.1

Her parents were Willem Melis and Sara la Roy.1 Abraham Verduin and Jacomijntje Melis immigrated on the Dutch Bark Maria Magdalena from Rotterdam, arriving in New York on 8 May 1852. Listed as Abrm Verduin (55, farmer) and his wife Jacobnynte (56). They are listed next to Willem and his wife Elizabeth.2
