John D. Contant was born in May 1878 in The Netherlands.3 He married Nellie M. Hennefreund on 4 June 1904.1
Johannes Contant immigrated with Isaac Contant and Martha Contant on the SS. Noordam, from Antwerp, arriving in New York on 27 Feb 1896, with 10 children: Johannes (18), Jannis (17), Isaak (13), Anna (19), Jannetje (15), Josina (2), Hendrika (3), Marie [sic] (7), Peter (11), and Marinus (8). They were travelling second cabin.4

1920 Fed. census: Household of John D. Contant, 85 Autumn Street, Lodi, Bergen County, New Jersey. Household consists of John D., his wife Nellie and two children: John (12) and Helen (9), both born in NJ.3
