Halke Beumee (1832-1909)

Halke Beumee was born on 12 Dec 1832 in Nieuwe Pekela, 185 years ago. She is not actually related to me, but her 1st cousin once removed Wildrik Jacob Beumee, married my great-grandaunt Grietje Starke (dutch link). Halke was the fourth of seven children, five of whom lived to adulthood. She married Jurjen Westerman, and died in 1909

The Beumees were Lutheran, Halke’s grandfather (Johan Gotlieb) came from Germany to Nieuwe Pekela before 1791, when he married Allegonda á Besten. Allegonda’s family was already in the Pekela region for centuries: a Wilhelmus á Besten, minister in Westernieland, married Fennetien Lambers in Groningen. Johan was a hatmaker, an occupation in which several of his children would follow him. In 1922 it is reported in the paper that the facility of the hatmaker C. Beumee in Nieuwe Pekela totally burned down(1)

Her first cousin once removed and my great-grand aunt emigrated to the US, where they have  many descendants
