Helena Abels (1730-)

Helena Abels was baptized 23 Apr 1730 in Blijham in Groningen, daughter of Abel Engels (dutch link) and his second wife Margaretha Luppes. Abel was 65 yrs old when Helena (or Hillena) was born. He must have been a very healthy man, as he is still present at the marriage contract of his son Luppo in 1759! Helena is my sixth great-grand-aunt.

Helena married Lupke Okkes in 1763. The marriage contract is unfortunately not online, only the date, But they have six children baptized in Midwolda, and they have both an Abel and several Margareta’s. Helena is also present at the marriage contract of her brother Luppo, so I am quite sure that in spite of the large age difference between Helena and her father, it is indeed the right family. But it would be nice to have her contract as well. Maybe someday it will come online.
