Willem Cramer (1760-)
Willem Cramer was baptized 3 Feb 1760 in Amsterdam, third child of Willem Cramer (dutch link) and Jannetje van der Schilde. He is my husband’s 4th great-grand-uncle. The sponsors at his Dutch Reformed baptism were Andries Campman and Antje van der Schilde. Antje is the sister of his mother, and is a sponsor at the baptism of three of Willem’s siblings.
Willem and Jannetje marry in 1754, she is from Amsterdam, her parents are deceased, Andries and Antje married in 1753, Antje is also from Amsterdam, and parents are deceased. Jannetje (listed as sister) is witness at Antje’s marriage. Even though both sisters are listed as from Amsterdam (which ususally indicates the birth place), I cannot find the baptisms there. As Willem and Jannetje name their first son Godfried (after his father) Leonardus, it is possible, but can’t be proven, that her father was Leonardus. However, Andries and Antje have 9 children (all bapt. Ev. Luth.) and name none Leonardus. And while Antje is sponsor to Jannetje’s children, Jannetje does not serve as sponsor to Antje’s children.
As Jannetje is my husband’s 5th great-grandmother, and I am hitting a brick wall, I was trying to find out whether any of the other children, including Willem had any more information. Brother Godfried continues the line, and sister Maria married in 1795 in Amstelveen, and is present at the baptism of one of Godfried’s children. No other child shows up in the Amsterdam records after their baptism. A Willem Cramer married in Amsterdam in 1768, but he was born in 1743 in Neuenhausen, Germany; interesting he has a brother Godfried. Our Cramers also come originally from Neuenhausen, so there may be a connection, but it is rather far, and will not break through my brick wall with Jannetje.
Sometimes, when I write these posts, I find some additional information. But no luck this time, for the moment I am at a dead end, and no closer to breaking through this wall.
