Sanneke IJsbrands (1668-1708)
Sanneke (or Susanna) (dutch link) was baptized 6 Jan 1668 in Amsterdam, 350 years ago. She is my husband’s 7th great-grandmother, daughter of IJsbrand Pietersz and Hendrikje Jans. Her father’s family probably came from the Southern Netherlands or France, but I have not yet found any proof of that, but her father’s parents are Pieter Morieau and Suzanna Maillaers, clearly French last names (they married in Amsterdam in 1641). In the burial register she is listed as Susana Moerjou; when her husband remarries, as Susanna Mourjon.
Sanneke married Arij Pieters in 1691. Arij came from Oud-Beijerland near Rotterdam, together with two brothers. Arij was a grutter: someone who milled or sold grain, mainly buckwheat (compare ‘grits’). They have six children baptized before her death in 1708. Her husband remarried, but he has no more children
Sanneke only had one sibling, her parents only have 2 children baptized in the 18 years of their marriage; highly unusual, there must have been an awful lot of miscarriages. And Sanneke’s sister probably did not survive either, she is never a witness at the baptism of Sanneke’s children. But Sanneke’s family did OK, I have 138 of her descendants in my database.
