Thirza Washburn (1800-1871)

Thirza Washburn (dutch link) was born on 3 Dec 1800, 217 years ago. She is the fourth great-grandmother of my son-in-law, on his paternal side. She descends from James Chilton, and from Francis Cooke, who were both on the Mayflower. Distinguished American ancestry!

She married Thaddeus Whitney, another old american name. And her daughter Harriet married a Tiffany, yet another old name.

She was born in and lived her entire life in Susquehanna County, PA. She had six children, two sons served, and one died, in the Civil War (both in Comp. B, 162nd Volunteers (17th Reg.), Pennsylvania Cavalry).

After her husband died in 1860, she lived probably with her son Freeman (or he with her), she is listed in the 1870 census in his household. She died 18 Mar 1871 at the age of 70 yrs, 4 mo, and 15 days. She and most of her family are buried in Union Hill Road Cemetery in Gibson.
