Heinz Voss

np09398Heinz was the only son of Bernard Voss (dutch link) and Claire Hellenthal. We don’t know much about them.  We don’t know when Heinz was born, or when he died. And this picture of the dapper little boy in his white sailor’s suit does not really give an inkling of the life he had.

His father was born in 1869 in Boslar, near Aachen in Germany. He died in 1958 in Zurich, Switzerland. When did they leave Germany? Before WWI, or before WWII? The children of Bernard’s brother Hermann emigrated in the 1930’s to the US and Palestine/Israel, his sister was my husband’s grandmother, she went to the Dutch East Indies with her husband, and came back to the Netherlands after he died. She survived WWII thanks to unknown strangers.

But Bernard and his family remain a mystery. I’d love to find out more.
