Barend ten Bruggencate

id03669My great-grandfather Barend ten Bruggencate (dutch link) looks like a very proper and dignified person. However, he seems to have been quite a rascal in his youth.
Barend attended the Latin School in Almelo. He apparently was not a model student, according to this report of the teacher:
“Bart ten Bruggencate had, passing the open window after school, answered me in an impertinent and insulting way. The next morning, during the lessons, he was playing the clown, thus I decided to dismiss him for the morning. Because he refused to go, I doubled the assigned work, while he impertinently stayed seated, until he, again being punished, because he after all this dared to laugh with someone else, finally decided to leave the school.”
