     Jan Barthold Broekman was born on 21 Dec 1881 in Amsterdam (Paleisstraat 27). Gerard Cramer and Gerrit Lucas Broekman were the witnesses.1 He married Christophora Eduarda Ynzonides, daughter of Ds. Christoffel Ynzonides and Johanna Maria Broekman, on 26 May 1910 at De Bilt.2,3 He died c 1960 in Santiago.4

Other information: He was registered for the draft in 1881 in Amsterdam. He was studying to be a mate. His birthdate and parents are listed, but his address and length are not.5
Jan Barthold Broekman enrolled in the Nautical College on 24 Aug 1896. He did his first tour as apprentice navigator in 1899. He passed his last exam in 1901, and graduated with honors.6
     J.B. Broekman was assigned, as 2nd Lieutenant of the Marine Reserves, to the guardship near Willemsoord on 24 Jun 1910.7 He and Christophora Eduarda Ynzonides lived a 1918 in Santpoort. From Dec 22 1910 to 31 Jul 1912 they lived in Buiksloot, he came from Den Helder, she from Den Bilt; in 1912 they move to Bloemendaal.4,8
Jan Barthold Broekman was an officer in the navy, eventually becoming a captain. Familysearch has arrival data for him in 1926 (Soemba, from Amsterdam to Boston), 1928 (Saparoea, from Soerabaja to Boston) and 1930 (Singkep, from Soerabaja to Boston.)9 He worked bt 1914 - 1918 (during WWI) as captain on a freighter between Asia (Japan) and US (Stoomvaart Maatschappij Nederland?). On 10 Sep 1923 he arrived in Astoria, Oregon, as captain on the freighter Kangean. He had come from Soerabaja, via Balik Papon, Bames and Manila P S, Miike, Japan, Vancouver, BC and Voican Bay, BC. In 1929 he was captain of the ship 'Prins der Nederlanden.10,11,12'
     He probably traveled from Santiago to Brasil in 1946. The Brasilian Embassy gave him a visa on 27 June 1946. He still had a Dutch passport (dated 23 May 1946). He was a merchant.13 Jan Barthold Broekman and Christophora Eduarda Ynzonides were cousins.10
