     Berend Rave was born on 4 Sep 1846 in Nieuwe Pekela.3,2 He married Willemina Schnitjer, daughter of Friedrich Wilhelm Schnitger and Trientje Rave, on 31 Dec 1873 at Nieuwe Pekela.1,4 He died in 1874 on board of the ship Maria Jantina, lost before the English coast.5

Mumbles, Mar 1st. A ship, about 15 ft long, painted black and green on the outside, and green on the inside, and H.J. de Boer in white letters in the back, and also a sailor's chest, painted green with the name J.J. Starke, Nieuwe Pekela, were found at sea yesterday by oyster fishermen, and brought here. The ship Maria Jantina, captain H.J. de Boer, from Groningen to Gloucester had departed Portland on Feb 24th.

Kladder, on the ship Hendrika Hillechiena, from here to Swansea, that he saw the ship and crew perish, but that he was unable to do something bacause of the terrible weather

(note: no place, no date) The ship Jantina Maria, capt. de Boer, recently departed from Groningen to Gloucester, perished with everyone on board. Among the crew were six people from Nieuwe Pekela.

Harlingen, May 28th. According to messages received here, is the Dutch ship Jantina Maria, capt. de Boer, from Groningen to Gloucester perished with all hands.6

Berend Rave was a sailor1,5 On 20 Jul 1867 he mustered on the ship Harmanna, under captain Jan Jurriens de Groot. As a seaman he earned 24 guilders a month.7
