     Thomas Root was born on 16 Jan 1605 in Badby, Northamptonshire, England.1 He married Elizabeth (?)3 He died on 17 Jul 1694 in Northampton, Massachusetts.1

Thomas Root made a will on 3 Dec 1691. He names his children: Joseph (and son Thomas), Thomas, Jonathan (and daughters Elizabeth and Hester), Hezekiah (deceased, son Benjamin under 21, unnamed daughters), Jacob, Sarah Kellogg, Thankfull (under 18), and granddaughter Thankfull Root (unclear whose daughter she is.)4
     Thomas Root (Salem, 1637) was an original proprietor at Hartford, in 1639, when his home-lot was on the east side of the road to the Cow Pasture (North Main St.) He was a weaver; served in the Pequot War; removed, May 1654, to Northampton, where he was one of the founders of the church; he d. there, July 17, 1694, at a great age. Believed to be the son of John Root and Ann Russel, his wife, of Badby, Co. Northampton ; b. Jan. 16, 1605. Source: Root Genealogy, 95-107)2,1 His brother John is also cited as being a founder of Hartford, but cannot have been there before 1640, as only Thomas is listed on the Founders Monument there.2
