Aside from the Noble Genealogy, Maria Buell and her parents have proved rather elusive. Buells originate in CT, and she is probably a descendant of William Buell (1610-1681), the Ancestor, who came from England, settled at Dorchester, MA., and removed to Windsor, CT in 1635, bought land there, married c. 1640 Mary (Post). William had two sons: Samuel and Peter. The descendants of Samuel (he married Deborah Griswold) are mostly known, the descendants of Peter less so. A great deal of work remains to be done here.1
Welles, "History of the Buell family in England and in America" has no Maria Amelia; Nathan D. Buell (Descendants of William Buell who came to America from England about 1631." Beaverton, OR (P.O. Box 862, Beaverton 97075) : N.D. [1989]) has nothing useful. She is not of the line of Don Carlos Buell.2
The Compendium of American Genealogy (Virkus), vol 5, has a David Buell (1737-1816, son of Jedediah), who married Mary Hurd (1741-1806). He descends from Samuel (x Deborah Griswold), son of William.3
Torrey has the following (but there are still several generations that need to be bridged):
John Boull/Buel married Elizabeth Clements on 23 Nov 1694 in Stamford, CT
John Buel (1672-1746) married Mary Loomis (-1768) on 20 Nov 1695 (also 12 or 13 Nov). Lived in Windsor//KillinglyLitchfield, CT
Peter Buell (1644-1729) married (1) Martha Coggens/Cogan on 31 Mar 1670 in Windsor, she was from Simsbury, she died 1686 in Simsbury
Peter Buell (1644-) married (2) Mercy/Mary, c. 1687, she died 1688 at age 22. They lived in Windsor, CT
Peter Buell (1644-1729) married (3) Mary (Gillette) Bissell, widow of Jacob, on 39 Jun 1699 in Simsbury. She died in 1734
Samuel Buell (1641-1720) married Deborah Griswold (1646-1719, 18?) on 13 Nov 1662. They lived in Windsor and Killingly,CT.4

General Don Carlos BUELL was born on 23 Mar 1818 in Marietta, OH. He died on 19 Nov 1898 in Rockport, KY. Parents: Salmon D. BUELL and Eliza BUELL. He descends from both sides: father from Sergeant Peter, son of William, and mother from Capt Timothy, son of Samuel, son of William.5

He is listed in the following census:
1810 Fed. census (6 Aug): Household of David Buell, New Milford, Litchfield County, Connecticut. Household consists of 1 male and 1 female >45 (prob. David) and his wife, 1 female 16-25, and 1 female <10. Maria would have been about 14.
