     Jan was baptized (DRC) on 1 Aug 1649 at Recife, Pernambuco, Brazil. Sponsors were Jan Dircks, Ariaen Ariaens, Jacob Roeloffs, Grietje Willems and Aeltje Janss.^2,4 He married Aeltje Janss, daughter of Jan.^1,5

     He was on the Assesment List of Breukelen in Sep 1676 as Jean Frederickse. He was assessed for 1 poll, 2 horses, 2 cows, and 2 morgan of land. Total assessment £ 66⁶ He was also on the Assesment List of Breukelen of 26 Sep 1683 (as Jan Fredericks). Then he was assessed for 1 Poll, 3 horses, 6 cows, 2 do of 2 yrs, 1 do of 1 yr, and 14 morgen of land. Total assessment £ 118.10. He was in the census of 1698 as Jan Fredrickse: 1 man, 1 woman, 7 children, no apprentices, and no slaves.^7,8
     A Jan Fredericks was among the men who took the oath of allegiance in Kings County in the Province of New York for Breukelen on 26-30 Sep 1687. He is listed as being 35 yrs old. Acording to Teunis G. Bergen in “Register of the Early Settlers of Kings County,” 1881, reprinted by Clearfield (Baltimore) in 1994, Jan immigrated in 1652 from the Netherlands as Jan Fredericks Van Leeuwen; however, then he cannot be the 35yr old taking the oath of allegiance (even though Bergen has him as such, without the age.)^9,10
