     Mordecai Bedient was born on 16 Aug 1762 in Connecticut.2,3 He (1) married Mary Rockwell. He (2) married Polly.2,4 He died on 12 Oct 1855 in Butternuts, Otsego County, New York,3,5,6, and was buried in the Prentiss Cemetery at Butternuts.3

Mordecai Bedient was a stone mason.2
     He moved in 1802 to Butternuts, New York, together with his family and his mother Abigail. Nine children were born in Danbury, CT, of whom six died in 1802 of typhoid fever. Surviving children were Polly (b. Sep. 1, 1784; d. Feb. 24, 1863),
Charles, (b. 1786) and Zalmon (b. Jan. 21, 1789; d. Feb. 7, 1882). In Butternuts they had four more children: Alanson (1801-1861), Harriet (1803-1876), Jesse (1805-1883), and Nancy (1807-1896.)7,1
He served in the Revolutionary War. He was a pensioner in 1840; and his wife Polly received a pension through 1860.8,6
Mordecai Bedient made a will on 17 Mar 1855. He mentions his wife Polly, and his children Charles Bedient, Polly Motrauw(?), Zalmon Bedient, Alanson Bedient, Harriet Jackson, Jesse Bedient (prob. Jesse Bedient), and Nancy Clark.5 His will was probated on 6 Dec 1855 at Otsego County Court.5

A 76 yr old Mordecai Bedient is listed as a pensioner on the next page, but on the line of the household of Sarah Smith. A Salmon Bedient (50-60) is on the same page.8
