Children
     James Bigelow was born on 7 Jun 1762 in Spencer, Massachusetts.3,4 He married Mary Graham, daughter of James Graham and Jane, on 18 Dec 1783 at Spencer.3,2 He died on 5 Oct 1842 in Mount Pleasant Township, Pennsylvania,3,5, and was buried in the Presbyterian Cemetery at Mount Pleasant Township.3

James Bigelow was a blacksmith.3 He and Mary Graham moved in 1808 to Mount Pleasant Township.3
He fought in the Revolutionary War. He served in Colonel Graydon's Regiment, Massachusetts Line.
He enlisted in Spencer, MA in July 1780. He was sent to West Point and attached to the company commanded by Captain Watson in Colonel Graydon's Regiment. He continued there for 6 months, when he was discharged in West Point by Colonel William Hull. He enlisted again in the Spring of 1781, this time for three years. He was again sent to Springfield, where he was placed in the company of Captain William Abner in Colonel Michael Jackson's Regiment. Shortly afterwards he was placed in the service as a blacksmith, under the direction of General McDougal. Here he served for nearly a year. He then rejoined his afore mentioned company and regiment. In the latter part of March 1783 he received an honorable discharge because he was lame (from a fall while building barracks), and his brother Joseph served out his term for him. He did not fight in any general battle.6,3

     On 29 Aug 1820 he submitted a list of his possessions in his pension application.
He had no land, he owned his blacksmith tools, one cow, six sheep, one old hog, some kitchen furniture, one table, six chairs and a little old pewter, a decent set of cups and saucers, a pot, a five pail kettle, a teakettle, a looking-glass, one old chest, shovel and tongs, one side saddle, some old pails and tubes, a Bible and a number of other old books. The total value was $70.-.
He also states that he is weak of body, because of lameness, due to an injury sustained in the Revolutionary War, and a sickness about 15 years ago. His wife Mary is as old as he is, but healthy and able to labor in the house. His daughter Patty, aged 25 is weak. His two underaged daughters Trephosa and Thirza are able to labor, and so is his son James.6
