Henri and his son Marinus both died on 1 Jan 1945 of a skull fracture after a fall. Wupperthal was severely bombed by the Allies that day, so it seems likely that this is where they died. It is possible they were members of the NSB (National Socialist Movement in the Netherlands, or a similar organization; according to Han his mother told him, they didn't want to call him Mar, as some one in the family with that name was a member of the NSB.4,3
