Thomas ten Bruggencate was born on 17 Apr 1813 in Stad Almelo.1 He (1) married Aukjen Kristiaans, daughter of Libbe Kristiaans and Elske Jaspers, on 3 Feb 1844 in Ambt Almelo2 (banns 21 Jan 1844, Ambt Almelo).2 He (2) married Johanna Nijhof on 5 Dec 1844 in Ambt Almelo3 (banns 10 Nov 1844, Ambt Almelo).3 He (3) married Ann Smith on 29 Sep 1852 in Hamilton County, Ohio, (She was over 18 yrs old). 45

Thomas ten Bruggencate was in 1844 a carpenter.2,6 He lived at the time of his marriage since more than one year in Ambt Almelo.2 He and Johan ten Bruggencate emigrated in 1847 from Stad Almelo to North America 7.8,6,9 Thomas travelled on 4 Aug 1847 on the ''Doggersbank'' to New York City with his cousin Johan. They left from Amsterdam on the 'Doggersbank', and arrived on 4 Aug 1847 in New York City.10

1860 Fed. census (1 Jun): No Thomas with wife Ann, b. in Holland, Netherlands or Germany in the 1860 census 11. Gerrit Jan Gast was the brother-in-law of Thomas ten Bruggencate.3
